My husband would say, “real romance is not having to cook your own tiger after you spent all day slaying it, woman!”

To which I would say, “you wanna do your own laundry, too?”

And he would say, “I already did after I ran out of underwear three days ago.”

To which I slink away, a total stay-at-home mom failure, knocking over the 2-foot stack of unsorted mail in the process.

I guess I am a “writer-type”. It seems I can’t go too many days without writing something…a short poem, a blog, a few lines on the novel I’m still working on.

That’s some excellent advice, Wendy! I’d probably be the one to hold on rather than go do my own thing. But then again, one of the problems we had at first was I was ALWAYS doing my own thing.

After being married almost nine years, I’ve also figured out that the idea that it “waxes & wanes” is also true. I used to freak out when things were waning a little. I’ve figured out that during a waning period, this is not the time to hold onto the relationship with two clenched fists. It’s the time to go back to yourself a little. You’ve gotten a little boring, a little out of touch with yourself. Give the other person & yourself some room.

And you’ll come back together because you’re missed & you miss him, and you have something to talk about again.

No happy endings, just unfinished ones… I like it. It sounds very much like you are a writer-type, too (I call myself a writer-type because I’ve chickened out of anything longer than a blog post for months now) and this is an interesting way to think of a story.

Every story is unfinished, I guess. We just stop at the point where it would start getting dull.
